We have Casper, named after the creature from the black leather lagoon by The Cramps. Pretty good band, I know due to Wednesday they got a wave of a new audience, and while I didn't find it through Wednesday (I found it either through my spotify or youtube recommedations) I still found it due to Wednesday. I can't say the band wasn't popular before that though, just that a lot of younger people probably found them due to Wednesday. Anyway as I'm not familair with the creature from the black lagoon, I have to stop myself from adding the black leather bit. It's really hard especially since I have a Monster High Lagoona doll. Wow I feel like they stopped doing the "children from famous monsters" bit, I don't blame them but I feel like they acknowledge it less in gen 3. I haven't watched the movies OR the webshow so I could be wrong lol. ANYWAY.
On the art though, we have Casper, this one was SO FUN to design. With the exception of Alex, I did 8 concepts which was fun. One of my friends messaged me about how this reminded her of cats the musical, the original, and to that I say. That was a inspiration for this, yes. I actually like the costuming for the musical, really cool. I really like casper it was a lot of fun to work on him, I kinda tried to tie him in with Alex since it's Alex and Casper (sometimes I write Sourdough and I get the irrational fear of being accused of queer baiting or something. They are not gay, but queer still. Just genderqueer. Also aro and/or ace.)(on Sourdough actually, because the other week I had massive ontslew of SD brainrot and ended up finishing it, which is an experience, but still not sure what I'll do with it afterwards, if I'll share it I mean, I change my mind a lot.)
What is Casper without over the top make up and big hair? Nothing. That is Castin. the lace was so much fun to do! (in retrospect the design feels a bit too much, since I already did that with the earings. I say, as if anyone can see it, for context I did ankh and the technically masculine symbol. But snce that's just the astrological sign for Mars(right?) and those bozos got really lazy with them, there's another planet that has it, only difference is direction, that shit stinks and I am ANGRY about it) I liked the earing concept a lot, it pleased me. I remember the coat was a bitch to paint, stripes and patterns are always a bitch to do because of the shadows. I am not normal and I do all the colouring on one layer (usually), I cannot use multiply layers anymore. I learnt digital art that way, I just went through a phase of trying to do everything the most annoying way I possibly could so I learnt how to colour pick by hand. I am comfortable with that now, I like the control in a way, even if you can do that with multiply layers. I feel like it's probably made it easier to mix paint in traditional art. Doing it that way just feels more natural to me than using multiply layers for shadows now, not that I don't use blending layers, I definitely do because man I spent ages painting something, I'm not in the mood to repaint it because I wanted to shift the colour slightly. NUH UH.
I like his pose, I like the shape of the coat. The coat looks a TAD odd in someplaces but nuh uh I DO NOT SEE.
